In an exclusive interview for Polish Radio’s English Service, MEP Jacek Saryusz Wolski outlines the EU’s new philosophy of aid to the nations to the south and east of the continent.

He describes the new approach as: ‘much less policy directed towards governments, very often authoritarian, non-democratic and oppressing people, and much more directed towards civil societies.’

Looking ahead to Poland’s presidency starting on 1 July, Jacek Saryusz-Wolski says: ‘Some say it will be Arabic presidency, but I think it will be ‘neighbourhood presidency’ because we have to cope with two challenges and Poland has something very special to offer: know-how about how to make fish out of fish soup or eggs out of smashed eggs, which means transition transformation. Poland can offer something in terms of solving the problems of neighbourhood as a whole, both South and East‘.
