A rare sight just twenty years ago, diabetes type 2 is becoming an increasingly common diagnosis among youth.
It “is a consequence of a bad lifestyle, of being overweight and obese for too long,” says Marcin Radziwiłł, CEO of the Medicover Foundation. “If we don’t exercise properly and we don’t have the right diet, we can develop one of 14 various lifestyle-based diseases, and one of these is diabetes type 2.”
The organization has set out to screen some 30,000 teenagers in Poland in order to prevent the condition from developing among the high-risk groups. The PoZdro programme, launched by the foundation, includes a two-year health-coaching scheme to help youngsters modify their way of life and get their health back on track.
