Poland beat Slovakia in second Euro 2012 warm up match

The goal was scored in the first half with a header by Damien Perquis, in the second of three warm up freindlies ahead of the tournament Poland is co-hosting with Ukraine.

In the first half, Coach Franciszek Smuda sent out a much stronger side than beat Latvia, also by one goal to nil, in the first warm up match last Tuesday, also in Klagenfurt.

With Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski leading the forward line, Poland showed much more offensive intent right from the opening whistle against Slovakia.

The goal came after half an hour when Lukasz Piszczek sent in a cross from the right and Damien Perquis headed home to score his first goal for Poland's international side.

The goal was a good way to answer Perquis's critics, such as former goalkeeper and now politician Jan Tomaszewski, who suggested he should not be playing for Poland as he has already played for France as a junior.

In the second half Smuda made several changes – including taking off the Borussia Dortmund spine of the side, Lewandowski, Kuba Blaszczykowski and defender Lukasz Piszczek - and Poland played more defensively, leaving less space and hanging on to their lead.

On Sunday, coach Smuda will announce his final squad of 23 and then Poland will play Andorra in the final warm up match on 2 June.
