VW is planning to produce some 150,000 Caddy units annually at its plant in Poznań, but is “cautiously hoping for more” depending on economic growth, said VW Poznań board member Szymon Trzebiatowski.
Speaking at the Caddy premiere, Trzebiatowski told ISBnews that production of the light commercial vehicle at the VW plant in Poznań guarantees some 6,800 jobs, adding that in 2016 a new factory in nearby Września will provide emplyment for around 3,000 people for the production of the new generation of Crafter delivery vans.
“From our calculations it turns out that the commercial Caddy and Transporter T5 vehicles […] increased their share of the Polish market last year,” Trzebiatowski said, adding that “this segment has potential for growth and this is what we expect when we will start production of the Crafter in Poland”.
In the past 11 years VW has sold some 1.5 million units of its Caddy model. The new fourth-generation vehicle is expected to go on sale in Germany at the end of June, followed by other countries soon after.
The VW plant in Poznań employs 6,800 people, manufacturing the Caddy and Transporter vehicles (27,400 units in 2014) and components (3.3 million parts made last year). (jb)
