Volkswagen to build new plant in Poland

German carmaker Volkswagen has signed a deal with Austrian developer Strabag to build a commercial vehicles factory in Poland.

The deal has been slated as one of the largest automobile investments in Europe.
Volkswagen plans five industrial buildings at a site in Bialotezyce, in central Poland, where it will build the next generation of its VW Crafter vans.
Strabag will build three of the five plants for an undisclosed sum. Construction is slated to be completed by mid-2015.
The automoive giant already runs a plant in Poland which produces parts and vehicles in the Caddy and Transporter T5 range. It employs 6,900 employees and the company says that VW Poznan’s output makes it “the second largest exporter in Poland.” (rg/jb)
