The upcoming gathering coincides with the newly elected Polish Parliament's first session, where the outgoing Civic Platform-run government will hand over the helm to the Law and Justice cabinet.

On Tuesday evening, outgoing deputy foreign minister Rafał Trzaskowski announced that the decision to have Poland represented by the Czech prime minister was taken by President Andrzej Duda.

In a communiqué issued on Monday, the Council of Ministers stated that the date of the Malta summit had been publicly announced ahead of the president's decision to hold the first parliamentary sitting on the same day. (aba/rk)
