The date of the summit coincides with the first session of the Polish Sejm, lower house of parliament following the recent general election which was won by the Law and Justice (PiS) party.

“I am convinced that regardless of the decisions that will be taken by Prime Minister, we will be represented at this summit. Let's wait, and see,” head of the presidential chancellery Adam Kwiatkowski told the TVN broadcaster.

“The Prime Minister has announced that she will provide some information and documents to the President. We'll wait for these documents, for these decisions, we are waiting for a response from the Prime Minister in the context of this proposal which was put forward by Law and Justice. Then the president will make a decision,” Kwiatkowski added.

Last week PM Ewa Kopacz appealed to President Andrzej Duda to send someone to the summit.

"It was Poland which created a dedicated group opposed to the implementation of a permanent mechanism for the distribution of migration,” Kopacz stressed.

“It is at these informal European Council summits where the positions of member states are represented,” Kopacz stated.

The summit in Valletta, Malta, will be held on 11-12 November and was called by EC President Donald Tusk. (rg/di)
