Polish presidential spokesman in Warsaw, Jaroslaw Sokolowski said President Gauck accepted the invitation and stated that the trip to Poland will be his first official visit abroad as Germany’s head of state.
According to diplomatic sources in Berlin, the visit could occur on 26 and 27 March.
"President Komorowski expressed hope that the imminent visit to Warsaw will be an opportunity to discuss the ethical dimension of European integration," Sokolowski told journalists.
The new president of Germany said on Sunday in a television interview that he would like his first official visit abroad to be Poland.
“If I could follow my heart, my first visit will be Poland,” he said.
Gauck will be sworn in as head of state on Friday, March 23.
