Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister Waldemar Pawlak is chairing a meeting of EU energy ministers in Brussels today, where he will present a Polish EU presidency report on energy efficiency.

The report is part of the EU directive, which aims to help meet EU policy up to 2020 to improve energy efficiency by 20 percent.

Meanwhile, EU Energy Commissioner Guenther Oettinger has said that a proposed ban on Iranian oil imports to Europe – in an attempt to stop Tehran’s nuclear ambitions - would not affect the EU’s energy security.

“This is not a problem. [The oil] can be substituted from OPEC and other sources,” the commissioner told Reuters yesterday. (pg)
