Two new opinion polls released Tuesday morning find a clear lead for the ruling Civic Platform party, but also that one-in-four Poles have yet to decide how to vote ahead of parliamentary elections on 9 October.

Forty six percent told pollsters Gfk Polonia they would be voting for Prime Minister Donald Tusk's Civic Platform (PO) while the Law and Justice (PiS) opposition is a long away behind on 31 percent.

This is a much wider margin between the two leading parties in Poland than has been detected in recent polls.

The Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) is on 9 percent and Polish Peasant's Party (PSL) on 5 percent.

No other party would gain the five percent necessary to enter parliament under Poland's election rules.

Twenty four percent told the pollsters, however, that they had yet to finally make up their mind how to vote next Sunday.

Meanwhile, a poll by TNS OBOP finds Civic Platform on 31 percent, Law and Justice on 21 percent and the liberal Palikot Movement on 8 percent.

SLD and PSL would both receive 6 percent of the vote.

Twenty six percent told the pollsters they had yet to decide which party to vote for with just five days to go before polling day.

Translated into seats in the lower house of parliament (Sejm) the current coalition of Civic Platform and Polish Peasant's Party would secure a majority, with 241 MPs between them, with the Palikot Movement, based around the liberal former Civic Platform MP Janusz Palikot, picking 43 seats.

The two above surveys do not concur with recent polls such as the one taken by Millward Brown SMG / KRC which found that Civic Platform would receive 32 percent of the vote, Law and Justice 29 percent and the Palikot Movement 10 percent.

The fight for the undecided vote over the coming days will concentrate the minds of party leaders. (pg)
