Sixteen have drowned since the beginning of June as Poles took to lakes, rivers and the Baltic Sea to beat scorching temperatures, the Government Centre for Security (RCB) said on Thursday.

In a Twitter post, the centre called on citizens to remember several basic safety rules.
It warned people not to drink or take drugs before heading to the beach, not to jump into water without knowing it is safe, and to steer clear of unpatrolled beaches.
With the mercury expected to exceed 30 degrees Celsius in many parts of the country, experts have warned the public to avoid excessive exposure to the scorching sun.
The heatwave is set to subside on Sunday, forecasters have said.
