“Three times we had to fight so Silesia could be a part of Poland,” said Polish President Andrzej Duda at a meeting with officials and residents from Silesia at the presidential palace in Warsaw.

The Silesian Uprisings were a series of three armed uprisings in Silesia from 1919 to 1921 in which Poles fought to break away from Germany and join Poland.

The lower house of the Polish parliament last July designated 2019 the Year of Silesian Uprisings.
