Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said the machines, which are also expected to be capable of carrying out search and rescue operations in combat conditions, would “significantly strengthen” Poland’s armed forces.

Morawiecki added that the AW101 helicopters would be "a very important element of our security architecture."

The British-Italian machines are produced by Italy’s Leonardo group, which owns Poland-based helicopter manufacturer PZL Świdnik.

Morawiecki voiced satisfaction that the helicopters would be partly produced in the eastern city of Świdnik, where the deal was signed on Friday.

Błaszczak announced the deal for the four AW101s after earlier this month signing a nearly PLN 400 million offset agreement accompanying the purchase.
