In the capital Warsaw, buildings including the houses of parliament, City Hall and the landmark Palace of Culture and Science all went dark for an hour at 8:30 p.m. in a symbolic gesture of solidarity with worldwide calls for greater climate awareness, Poland’s PAP news agency reported.

The global Earth Hour event, organised by environmental group WWF, was started in Sydney, Australia, in 2007.

Poland marked Earth Hour for the 12th time, the PAP news agency reported.
