Poland’s LOT grounds Boeing 737 Max 8s after Ethiopian Airlines crash

Polish airline LOT said on Tuesday it was temporarily grounding all Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft in its fleet following a deadly Ethiopian Airlines crash.

Earlier in the day, around 30 other air carriers—from countries including Ethiopia, China, Australia, Singapore, the United States and Britain—decided to suspend flights using such planes, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
A total of 157 people from 35 countries, including two Polish nationals, were killed when an Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 Max 8 plane heading to Nairobi in Kenya crashed near Addis Ababa shortly after take-off on Sunday.
LOT spokesman Adrian Kubicki said on Tuesday that his airline would use other aircraft to carry out flights normally operated by Boeing 737 Max 8s.
The Polish national air carrier has five Boeing 737 Max 8 jets in its fleet, the IAR news agency reported.
