High winds lashed the country’s northern regions as well as Wielkopolskie province in the west and the central region of Mazovia, Paweł Frątczak, a spokesman for the State Fire Service, said on Wednesday morning.

Firefighters were kept busy removing fallen trees from roads and railroad tracks, Frątczak told public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency.

Four people, including one firefighter, were reported injured.

Some 5,500 customers were left without electricity at one point after fierce winds toppled trees and disrupted power supplies, the IAR news agency reported.
