Half of anti-smog masks available in Polish stores do not protect users from air pollution, the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) has said.

The office’s head, Marek Niechciał, was quoted by public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency as saying that UOKiK has checked 15 types of different masks, six of which did not meet the necessary criteria while 11 were mislabelled.
The office will press charges against eight retailers selling uncertified and mislabelled masks.
