In an interview with The Financial Times, Georgette Mosbacher said that America’s troop presence in Poland was set to increase as the administration in Washington stepped up its engagement in central Europe.

She stopped short of saying a permanent US army base would be set up in Poland, The Financial Times reported.

It added that the United States has 4,000 troops in Poland at the moment.

The paper cited Mosbacher as saying that Poland’s willingness to play its part in bolstering Europe’s defences was central to the strength of US-Polish relations.

US Vice President Mike Pence was on Wednesday due to start a three-day visit to Poland to attend a conference on the Middle East and for bilateral talks.

Warsaw and Washington share "convergent" foreign policy goals, Poland's Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz said on Tuesday after talks with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
