Last missing miner found after tremor at Polish copper mine

Rescuers on Wednesday reached the last miner missing after a tremor at a copper mine in south-western Poland, public broadcaster TVP reported.

It cited doctors as saying that the miner was found in good condition after taking shelter in the mining machine he was operating.
A total of 32 miners were near the epicentre when the tremor struck 770 metres underground at the Rudna mine, owned by state-run copper producer KGHM, at around 2 pm on Tuesday.
Eight miners were later reported missing. All but one were found by rescuers by the end of the day.
Four of the rescued miners have suffered injuries and remained hospitalised, including one who was in serious condition, TVP reported.
In 2016, eight people died after a tremor at the same mine, in the south-western town of Polkowice.
Last week, one miner died and eight others were injured when a tremor hit the Rydułtowy coal mine in Poland’s southern Silesia region.
In December last year, 13 miners, including 12 Poles, died in a methane blast at a Czech coal mine in Karvina, close to the southern Polish border.
