The tremor at the Rydułtowy mine in Poland’s southern Silesia region occurred shortly before midnight, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported on Wednesday morning, citing the country’s State Mining Authority (WUG).

The injured miners were taken to nearby hospitals. Six have since been discharged with light injuries and two remained hospitalised in non-life threatening condition, according to state news agency PAP.

A total of 20 miners were in the danger zone when the powerful 3.25 magnitude tremor occurred more than 1,000 meters underground, the PAP news agency reported.
