PLN 10 million have already been collected on Saturday, the day before the grand finale of the fundraising drive.

But donations were expected to continue coming in, with the charity scheduled to announce the final figure in March.

Some 120,000 volunteers took to the streets to raise funds across Poland and in many locations abroad on Sunday during the drive's finale.

This year’s proceeds are to go to children's hospitals all over Poland, which the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity plans to provide with modern medical equipment.

Sunday’s events were to culminate with a concert in Warsaw’s downtown Defilad Square.

The Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity has been organised by impresario Jerzy Owsiak since 1993.
