According to the Puls Biznesu daily, 694 companies in the east of Poland have already received a combined PLN 1 billion (EUR 230 million) in EU subsidies for innovation and research and development.
Polish Deputy Investment and Development Minister Adam Hamryszczak was quoted by the paper as saying that subsidising innovation "makes companies more competitive, provides jobs for experts, and makes the region develop."
He added that Polish companies were not afraid to invest in modern technology and that EU subsidies offered further encouragement.
