Officers said they stopped 1,299 drunk drivers during their annual Operation Torch road safety campaign, which this year lasted from 6 am on October 31 to 10 pm on November 4.

During a similar period last year, 43 people died and 551 were injured in 478 accidents on Polish roads, Radosław Kobryś from the country’s General Police Headquarters told Polish Radio's IAR news agency.

All Saints' Day on November 1 and All Souls' Day on November 2 are when millions of Poles visit the graves of their loved ones, often travelling hundreds of kilometres to their home towns.
