The Polish prime minister has said his government has devised a programme to reinstate and create new rail links for many small towns across the country.

The programme, dubbed “Rail-plus,” will cover towns with more than 10,000 residents aiming to link them to larger urban centres, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said on Wednesday.
Briefing reporters on the details of the new initiative, Morawiecki said local authorities would contribute 15 percent of the cost of recreating local and regional rail infrastructure after years of neglect under the country’s previous governments.
Morawiecki said in August that his conservative government was giving the country's rail system its biggest revamp in 30 years.
Officials last October announced a plan to pump PLN 1 billion (EUR 235m, USD 276m) into upgrading and building nearly 200 rail stations across Poland.
