Suicides outnumber road accident deaths in Poland: report

A total of 5,276 people committed suicide in Poland last year, almost twice as many as those who died in road accidents, according to reports.

Monday was World Suicide Prevention Day.
One in ten children and teenagers in Poland have contemplated killing themselves, according to private broadcaster TVN.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that every year 800,000 people take their own lives around the globe, TVN reported.
Meanwhile, around 2,800 people died and 11,000 were severely injured in road accidents in Poland in 2017, putting the country close to the bottom of a European Union ranking on road safety, according to a European Commission report cited by the Rzeczpospolita daily.
The WHO also estimates that around 50,000 Poles die every year due to illness caused by air pollution.
