Healthcare services “are and will be a priority” for the government, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has said.

He was speaking during a debate on healthcare spending at an economic forum in the southern Polish resort of Krynica-Zdrój on Wednesday.
Morawiecki said that after the collapse of communism in Poland in 1989, 20,000 to 30,000 doctors had left the country in search of better paid work abroad.
"Educating a doctor of various specialisations costs the country PLN 500,000 (EUR 115,000, USD 135,000) to PLN 1 million,” Morawiecki said.
He added: “Thirty thousand or 25,000 doctors, if you multiply that by a million, comes to PLN 25 billion. This means that Poland... has financed the healthcare services of rich countries.”
Poland plans to gradually increase healthcare spending to six percent of GDP by 2024, up from 4.78 percent this year, under a law signed by the president last month.
