The drought that hit Poland this year amid scorching temperatures has caused farmers losses of over PLN 3.6 billion (EUR 833m, USD 965m), a news agency reported on Wednesday.

Public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news service reported that the PLN 3.6 billion figure was the amount of losses estimated at the end of August,
IAR added that over 130,000 farms were hit by drought but assessment of the damage is ongoing.
Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said at the end of July that the Polish government was ready to amend the budget if needed in order to pay compensation to farmers.
Warsaw has asked the European Commission to help Polish agricultural producers.
