Four people died on Monday, seven others just a day earlier.

“Do not forget that water … is an exceptionally dangerous element. Remember about basic safety rules,” the Government Security Centre said on Twitter.

The security centre also warned not to drink or take drugs before heading to the beach, not to jump into unknown waters, and to steer clear of unpatrolled beaches.

The appeal comes after three Polish siblings died after being swept up by an aggressive wave at a beach last week.

The children, aged 11, 13 and 14, disappeared under the sea near a breakwater in northwestern Poland when their mother attended to her two-year-old who was on the beach.

A similar tragedy was avoided in the popular coastal town of Łeba on Tuesday. A man and his eight-year-old daughter started drowning when they got dangerously close to a breakwater while searching for the girl’s missing toy.

According to Poland’s statistical office, 457 people drowned last year, most of them at the weekends. (vb)
