Eighty-two horses will be on show at the gala at the Służewiec racetrack in the Polish capital.

The site was chosen so that the best horses could be seen by the broadest possible audience, said Polish Jockey Club chief Tomasz Chalimoniuk.

A 40-kilometre horse race will be held during the three-day event in Warsaw.

But the event's highlight, the prestigious Pride of Poland thoroughbred auction which draws bidders from around the world, will remain in Janów Podlaski. Horses will go under the hammer on Sunday.

In 2018, Poland marks 100 years since regaining independence after more than 120 years of partitions and foreign rule.
