Gen. Rajmund Andrzejczak was on Friday announced as President Andrzej Duda’s nominee to be the new Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces.

Andrzejczak, 51, replaces Gen. Leszek Surawski, who is retiring from the military, the president’s National Security Bureau (BBN) said on Friday.

It added that the replacement decision followed consultations between the president, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, Defence Minister Mariusz Błaszczak “and the generals concerned.”

Gen. Andrzejczak will take over effective July 3 after he is officially appointed during a ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Warsaw on Monday, the BBN said.
