In addition to working sessions, the four-day event starting on Tuesday includes a wide range of artistic events. The main theme of the meeting is “Creative Crossroads,” with a focus on innovation and encouraging links between various sectors of the Creative Cities.

Much attention is expected to be devoted to the Network’s priorities, notably the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the New Urban Agenda.

It is for the first time that the organisation’s annual meeting is being co-hosted by two cities. Kraków was designated as a UNESCO City of Literature in 2013, becoming the first Polish member of the Network.

Katowice followed suit in 2015 as a UNESCO City of Music.

The third Polish city in the Network is Łodź. It joined the organisation in the autumn of 2017 as a City of Film.

Created in 2004, the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) aims to promote cooperation with and among cities for which creativity is a strategic factor for sustainable urban development. It covers seven creative fields: Crafts and Folk Arts, Media Arts, Film, Design, Gastronomy, and Literature and Music.
