Around 4.6 million children in Poland will benefit from a new government subsidy for the purchase of school supplies, a government minister said on Monday.

Family, Labour and Social Policy Minister Elżbieta Rafalska said the Polish conservative government’s "Good Start" programme aimed to "provide every school pupil, every child starting a school year, with support to the tune of PLN 300 [EUR 70, USD 83].”

Poland's Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in mid-April said his government would help finance the purchase of school supplies for children -- by offering parents a handout of PLN 300 for every child under the age of 18 before the start of each school year.

Morawiecki announced the new government subsidy programme as Poland’s ruling conservatives were meeting in Warsaw to sum up their first two years in power and outline their priorities for the years ahead.
