Law enforcers in Poland say they have cracked down on a criminal group that illegally converted lubricating and heating oil into diesel fuel in a tax evasion scheme.

Twenty suspects have been detained and more than 200,000 litres of illegal fuel have been impounded as a result of the crackdown in 80 different locations across the country, according to Polish Radio’s IAR agency.
Some 300 officers from Poland’s Central Bureau of Police Investigation (CBŚP) and the internal revenue service took part in the operation, IAR said.
Law enforcers estimate that the gang may have brought to market more than 1.5 million litres of diesel fuel worth around PLN 7 million (EUR 1.7 million, USD 2.1 million) since November 2016, according to IAR.
