Twenty-three dead, 303 hurt in Polish road accidents over Easter

Twenty-three people were killed and 303 were injured in 238 accidents on Polish roads during the four-day Easter weekend, police have said.

During the same period last year, 35 people died and 379 were injured in 292 road accidents nationwide, according to police statistics.

Meanwhile, officers stopped 1,151 drunk drivers under their Safe Easter 2018 road safety campaign, which lasted from Good Friday to Easter Monday, according to Radosław Kobryś from the National Police Headquarters.

The Easter weekend is when Poles traditionally head off for family gatherings, which are often accompanied by alcohol.

Six people were killed and 66 were injured on Polish roads on Easter Sunday.
