Polish coach accident in Lithuania leaves 14 injured

Fourteen Polish nationals were injured, one severely, after a Vilnius-bound coach from Poland crashed in Lithuania, 120 kilometres away from its destination.

The vehicle carrying 46 Poles veered off a roundabout and hit a tree.

“Difficult road conditions were most likely the cause of the accident,” said Kristina Janulewicz, from the local police in the Alytus District Municipality where the incident took place.

“Heavy snow hit the area at the time of the event. The driver might not have adjusted the speed to the existing weather conditions,” she added.

All the casualties were taken to hospital for treatment in the city of Alytus, Janulewicz said. (aba/pk)
