Four people have died after contracting flu.

According to the National Institute of Public Health, in the second week of February almost 272,000 cases of influenza and suspected influenza were registered.

Experts say there may be substantially more cases than the statistics show because many sufferers do not go to a doctor.

Professor Lidia Brydak from the National Influenza Centre said that 3.6 percent of the Polish population have had flu shots this season.

Last season, 3.3 percent of the population were vaccinated for influenza while 4.8 million came down with flu, the highest figure in 40 years.
