The centre asked to be informed about people in need of assistance, including the homeless, elderly, people who live alone or drunk people who fall asleep outdoors, after two people froze to death on Friday.

In a statement, the Government Security Centre said that 111 people froze to death last winter.

The centre added that shelters had been set up across the country offering a bed and warm meal to those in need and that a hotline had been opened to offer advice on keeping warm. (vb/pk)
