Polish MPs OK plan to boost health spending

Healthcare expenditure in Poland will increase to 6 percent of GDP by 2025 under a plan approved by the country’s lawmakers on Friday.

In a rare show of nonpartisan unity, 436 members of the 460-seat lower house of Poland's parliament voted in favour of the government-drafted bill to boost spending, with only one deputy opposing and one abstaining.
Under the legislation, the increase in health spending will take place gradually, from 4.67 percent of GDP next year to 4.86 percent in 2019, 5.03 percent in 2020, 5.22 percent in 2021, 5.41 percent in 2022, 5.6 percent in 2023, and 5.8 percent in 2024.
Health Minister Konstanty Radziwiłł said that the government would plough an extra PLN 500 billion (EUR 119 billion) in the health service over the next 10 years.
Radziwiłł has previously said that the legislation would bring health expenditure in the country to its highest level ever.
