Poland to spend more on space tech: deputy PM

Poland will plough more money into developing its space technology industry, a deputy prime minister declared on Tuesday.

Mateusz Morawiecki, who is also finance minister and minister for development, was speaking at a conference in Warsaw marking the country's five years as a member of the European Space Agency (ESA).
The Polish government’s key economic development strategy, known as the Strategy for Responsible Development, places a strong focus on “space strategies,” he said.
He suggested that investment in the space sector creates “synergies, various indirect effects... in many other industries.”
When Poland was starting “its adventure” with the European Space Agency five years ago, it had no more than 60 companies active in the space technology sector, according to Morawiecki. "Today there are 350-360 such businesses,” he said.
According to reports early this year, the Polish development ministry is shooting for a 3 percent share in the European space technologies sector, which is worth EUR 7.5 billion and which is growing roughly 4 percent a year.
