The blast took place on the third floor of a residential building at around 5am on Thursday.
A street next to the building was closed off as firefighters worked at the site.
Residents had complained five hours before the explosion that gas was leaking out, and called emergency services asking for checks to be carried out, according to one of those evacuated.
The mayor of Szczecin, Piotr Krzystek, said help would be offered to people affected by the explosion.
