Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz has repeatedly failed to appear before a special parliamentary commission probing suspected restitution irregularities in the Polish capital.
Gronkiewicz-Waltz has failed to appear before the panel despite being summoned four times to attend hearings concerning a total of six properties, said Patryk Jaki, the head of the commission and a deputy justice minister.
The commission has imposed six PLN 3,000 (EUR 700, USD 835) fines on Gronkiewicz-Waltz, working out to PLN 18,000 in total.
The tax authorities stepped in after a request from the commission for debt collection proceedings, according to Polish Radio’s IAR news agency.
Jaki rebutted an argument by Gronkiewicz-Waltz that authorities cannot begin to collect the debt until an administrative court considers an appeal she has made in the case.
Gronkiewicz-Waltz has refused to appear before the commission, arguing the body is unconstitutional. (gs/pk)
