Accompanied by Polish deputy Prime Minister Piotr Gliński, the group arrived in Łodz from Warsaw by train to gain first-hand insights into travel conditions between the two cities.
In Łodź, BIE officials are to confirm the city’s readiness to host the so-called ‘small Expo’, including the funding for the project.
A host city of the event will be selected at the end of this year. Two other cities are in the race: Minneapolis in the US and Buenos Aires in Argentina.
A winning city has to gain the support of more than 50 percent of the 169 member states of the Paris-based Bureau International des Expositions.
Poland’s bid focuses on the theme of city revitalisation, and reflects the development of Łódź from a thriving textile industry centre, through an economic decline in the 1990s to a period of urban renewal, with former textile factories being transformed into offices and leisure facilities.
