A bill on a new State Security Service, which will replace the Government Protection Bureau, will be consulted by the government on Thursday, Poland’s interior ministry announced.

According to the ministry, the new service will be an elite organisation specialised in protecting state VIPs.

“The State Security Service will see the introduction of rules to make procedures and security activities more effective,” the ministry said, adding that more servicemen would be engaged in the new body under new recruitment rules, which will include lie detector tests.

The new service is also expected to replace the private security companies currently used to protect some government administration buildings. (vb/pk)
