Polish police bust suspected drug gang

Five men and two women have been detained in a crackdown on a gang suspected of involvement in prostitution, people trafficking, and producing and selling drugs, Polish police have said.

In a raid including anti-terrorist officers, police seized 500 cannabis plants, equipment for growing marijuana, cars worth PLN 70,000 (EUR 16,300) and PLN 10,000 in cash.

According to police, the gang was connected to football hooligans, supporters of a Kraków team.

Police said that the gang would collect PLN 4,000 monthly from each of “a few” sex workers, adding that the group may also have dealt in human trafficking, with at least one of the prostitutes being traded between gang members.

Police said that the seven may face up to 15 years in jail and more people may be detained in an ongoing investigation into the gang. (vb)
