“Energy security means that we want to be independent, we want to base our energy on our own resources,” Szydło said on Thursday, speaking in Gorzów Wielkopolski, in western Poland.

She added that competitiveness and modernisation will result in a situation where “the Polish energy sector is based on modern technologies”, and new jobs are created.

The idea is also to invest in “clean technologies, which will protect the environment”, Szydło said during the opening ceremony of a new cogeneration power plant, which generates heat using gas and steam turbines, in the city of Gorzów Wielkopolski.

Poland is still one of a few EU countries whose economies relies heavily on coal.
