The port of Świnoujście in north-western Poland suffered flooding on Wednesday after a raging storm on the Baltic Sea.

In the northern city of Elbląg, the local river spilled over just after midnight, flooding the streets of the Old Town and seeping into homes.

Forecasters have predicted that snowfall and wind will decrease in the coming days, but temperatures will remain below freezing, causing difficult road conditions in many areas.

About 8,500 homes across the country were still without electricity on Thursday after heavy snowfall and winds downed power lines, according to the Government Security Centre.
