The Rudna mine is owned by Polish copper mining company KGHM.
Nine rescue teams are carrying out a search.
Shortly after a strong earth tremor on Tuesday, the company said that 16 miners were missing. The number was later reduced to 10.
After midnight on Wednesday, the company's spokeswoman Jolanta Piątek announced that one of the miners had died, adding that eight people had been evacuated. (rg)
