The man was detained by Government Protection Bureau officers in Piekary Śląskie, southern Poland, before he entered a basilica in the town. He was handed over to police.
Duda was visiting the town to meet local residents, and a trip to the basilica was one of the points of his trip.
Radio station RMF FM reported that detained man was carrying a knife and a syringe.
Marek Magierowski, a spokesman for the president, said Duda's itinerary had not been changed because of the incident.
