Former Polish senator and screenwriter Krzysztof Piesiewicz has been fined PLN 10,000 (EUR 2,332) in a drugs case, with his lawyers called the sentence “incomprehensible”.

In 2009, Piesiewicz – then a senator for the ruling Civic Platform party and a screenwriter noted for his work with the late film director Krzysztof Kieślowski – said he was blackmailed by prostitutes who filmed him in a dress and snorting a white powder.
The videos, published by the Super Express tabloid, showed Piesiewicz taking a white powder, which the alleged blackmailers claimed was cocaine but he said was medicine. The video later showed the politician lying apparently unconscious on a couch in a flowery dress with one of the women applying makeup to his face.
In a verdict concluding an eight-year case on Tuesday, a Warsaw court fined Piesiewicz for a “failed attempt to possess, share and incite other people to take drugs.”
But his defence lawyers said the ruling was “incomprehensible” and announced they would lodge an appeal. (rg)
