Poland's PiS still well ahead: poll

If parliamentary elections were held this month, Poland's ruling conservative Law and Justice (PiS) party would receive 32 percent of the vote, five-and-a-half-percentage points less than its result in the October 2015 election, a poll has found.

According to a survey by the IBRiS Institute for the Rzeczpospolita daily, both the centrist Civic Platform party, the largest opposition grouping, with 138 deputies in the 460-seat Lower House, and the recently-formed Nowoczesna (Modern), which has only 28 deputies, can count on 18 percent support.
The remaining two parties that would enter parliament are Kukiz '15, with 11 percent support, and the Democratic Left Alliance, with six percent. The latter has no parliamentary representation in the current term. Six percent of respondents did not define their voting preferences.
The survey was conducted on 29-30 July on a representative group of 1,100 adult Poles interviewed by telephone. (mk/rg)
